  * Born in Chicago, Illinois on the North American continent of Earth
  * Orphan- Mel's parents died within a year of each other when she was very young.
  * Spent her youth bouncing around North America before applying to Starfleet Academy at the earliest age allowable.
  * Entered the Academy on the first try and passed with high marks in most of her subjects. Engineering was not one of them.
  * Decorated during combat in the later part of the Federation-Cardassian Wars and skirmishes in the last Federation-Tzenkethi War.
  * Crack shot with just about every type of energy weapon and most projectile weapons she lays hands on.
  * Quietly passionate about history, especially the 2150s. Mel has a particular interest in the //Enterprise// NX-01 and its crew.
