~~META: title = Episode 2: Act 1 ~~ ====== Episode 2: Spies Like Us - Act 1 ====== //Game session: 5/27/18; we restarted as players:ralph will be extensively traveling over the next two months. players:jon made a character, Lieutenant Khaleed Bahb, a Joined Trill. He enjoyed the creation process and likened the short session as being in a TNG episode. Unfortunately, creating Bahb ate into our game time.// ===== Stardate 44225.68: Friday March 24th, 2367, 0900 hours ===== ==== Kelly and Khaleed ==== After the debriefing, chief science officer **Lieutenant trek:venerable:pcs:kelly** also decides to explore Starbase 211. Unlike **Captain trek:venerable:pcs:aaron** or chief of security **Lieutenant Commander trek:venerable:pcs:kimball**, Kelly sticks to the scientific faculties of the //Sigma//-class starbase, which are located in the modular pods. He happily whiles the day away exploring the labs and getting ideas for his space on the //USS Boston//. Meanwhile, medical officer **Lieutenant trek:venerable:pcs:khaleed** spends most of the day treating the Bajoran refugees in the cargo bay. To avoid “a political incident,” the refugees are remaining on the //Boston// instead of transferring to the hospital on the starbase. Lieutenant Bahb scans each refugee intensely, partially to expand the Federation’s medical database on the Bajoran species, but also to secretly identify any potential medical threats to the Joined Trill onboard. As a Joined Trill himself, Lieutenant Bahb is part of a conspiracy to keep the existence of the symbionts a secret from Starfleet and the Federation as a whole; he stands 1.88 meters((6'2")) tall, with an average build, olive skin, long dark hair, and a thin beard. Luckily, he finds nothing that could threaten the delicate isoboramine levels of a Joined Trill. ===== Stardate 44227.63: Saturday March 25th, 2367, 0200 hours ===== ==== Late Night Cardassians ==== Gamma shift security officer Lieutenant Alandra hails Kimball, who had just fallen asleep. Kimball answers blearily, and Alandra apologizes but insists he must come to the bridge immediately. Kimball grunts an acceptance and grabs his uniform. While he gets dressed, Alandra then hails Captain Englyss and asks he come to the bridge as well. Aaron asks what’s going on, but Alandra replies, //“With all respect, sir, we need you on the bridge, now.”// ((Gamma shift security officer Lieutenant Commander Zeft, Dr. Ghatorii, and Alandra do not want to broadcast the existence of the spy over the communications.)) Aaron sighs but acquiesces. He exits his cabin the same time Kimball does, and they head to the turbolift together. They arrive on the bridge at 0210 hours, and they meet Commander Zeft, the normal gamma-shift commanding officer. Zeft is a bear of a Denobulan, barely fitting into his uniform, and Aaron mutters, “You need to recalibrate your replicator, commander.” Alandra is at the tactical alcove with Zeft, and CMO Lieutenant Commander Hel-Torin Ghatorii. Alandra looks at Aaron and Kimball and says softly but firmly, “We have a Cardassian on board.” That brings both men up short and Aaron demands an explanation. Hel-Torin states, “One of my staff, a Lieutenant Bahb – he’s Trill and he’s heard all the jokes – performed several intensive scans of the refugees. He uploaded the data to let the main computer establish some baselines, and a few moments ago the computer discovered one of the refugees, a female going by Krim Lapas, is actually a surgically-altered Cardassian.” Aaron immediately orders computer surveillance on this Krim Lapas; Alandra replies, “Already on it, sir.” He nods in approval and turns to Kimball; he orders security to double around the shuttlebays and to have Lieutenant Anjohl Meru retrieve Darrah Mace, the //de facto// leader of the refugees. Kimball nods and departs the bridge. Kimball heads down to Anjohl’s cabin on deck five and triggers the chime. Anjohl stumbles out a minute later, clearly not awake. Kimball says simply, “I need you to get Darrah Mace to the bridge. One of the refugees is actually Cardassian.” The sleepiness in her eyes vanishes in a split-second, replaced by cold anger, and she grabs her phaser and starts marching to the turbolift. Kimball clears his throat and calls out, “Uh, put on a uniform first?” Anjohl stops and looks down; she marched off wearing only her nightshirt. Blushing furiously, she strides back into her cabin to put on pants. Kimball smirks and returns to the bridge. Meanwhile, Aaron uses the main computer to secure the shuttlebays, triggering an alert to the Bynars Ten and Eleven, the chief operations officer and flight control officer respectively. They hail Aaron and ask, “Is there a security risk?" Aaron simply replies, “Yes,” so they interface with the main computer and lock down not only the shuttlebays, but also the docking ports to the starbase. He eyes their efforts and concedes, “Thorough.” Hel-Torin snorts and replies, “They’re very thorough.” Kimball returns to the bridge and tells Aaron that Anjohl is on her way. The two Bajorans enter the bridge a few moments after that, with Darrah Mace still nursing a hangover; his tolerance for springwine has gone way down and half the case from the //Boston’s// stores has been consumed. Aaron lays it out bluntly: one of his people, Krim Lapas, is a surgically modified Cardassian. Darrah is stunned, and admits they ‘rescued’ her from the city of Tempasa in the Hill Province. Supposedly, she was fleeing from a local gul’s harem.((Her cover story)) Alandra performs a thorough security scan on the sleeping Krim Lapas, and announces, “I’ve located her suicide pill, in her back left molar.” Aaron asks if she can deactivate it whilst beaming Krim to the brig, but Alandra shakes her head and says, “Honestly, I’m not that good. Ten or T’kora might be able to.” Aaron nods and hails his chief engineer. He fills her in and then contacts Ten to loop everyone in. Hel-Torin interjects, “Captain, a better idea. Her readings indicate she’s about twenty minutes to REM sleep. You can beam someone out during REM sleep and they won’t wake up. We could beam her directly to a biobed in sickbay and deactivate the suicide pill.” Aaron agrees and asks how long it will take to set up the transporter. Ten states, //“Done.”// Aaron snorts and Hel-Torin smiles briefly before adding, “I’d like to have Lieutenant Bahb on hand as well; he inadvertently discovered her and he is our current expert on Bajoran physiology.” Aaron agrees, and his crew starts their preparations. ---- <= Episode 1: Epilogue Act 2 =>
