Richard MacLeod (known as just MacLeod to most, but also "Unkie McCool" or "Dick" to a select few) is a detective in the Northampton Police Department and later a Special Consultant with the Massachusetts State Police.

• Partner of Alicia Vandernoot, in what is to be a lifelong, if inexplicable friendship.
• Permanent bachelor
• Extremely loud, boistrous and jovial. Knows his outsized personality gets on people's nerves and either works this for his own amusement or does nice things to make up for it (like that one time he showed up with ice cream for the entire department except Fuller. Fuck Fuller.)
• Seems to have styled his personality and off-duty wardrobe after Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I., down to the Hawaiian shirts, aviator sunglasses and visible chest rug.
• Is actually a VERY good detective under all the noise and actually has the decorations and commendations to prove it, although you'd never know it unless you looked at his uniform during a formal event.
• Purchased the red truck from evidence once it was released, named it Isobelle, and has treated it like his baby since.

• At Vandernoot's behest, became a Special Consultant for the Massachusetts State Police after she became NPD's Chief. ¹⁾ He is semi-retired from that but is still called in to investigate unusual cases. Is reassigned to the Northampton barracks after the showdown at the Asylum to look after Vandernoot while she recovered from her concussion.
• Still drives Isobelle. She is just about as loud as he is.
• Now resembles Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods.
• Along with Vandernoot, now knows the truth about "All the weird shit that keeps happening around here." Still unsure what to make of it all.
